Antique invalid or sick room feeding cup in fine white porcelain in the shape of a duck. This translucent white porcelain invalid feeder, or pap boat (a form of liquidised food that would be taken from this vessel) is finely molded with feathers, eyes and beak and a nicely curved and ornate handle. This type of medical invalid or baby feeder cup was used to feed those who were sick and couldn't eat solid foods. Sick cups were quite common place within hospitals and homes for feeding of invalids & infants. This particular exampel is quite special though as it features a duck, and it probably dates around 1880-1920 sinceI have seen similar examples described as 'victorians'. It is probably of European origin but it is not marked.
If you ar not a collector, this rare figural hospital cup can be used as a gravy boat, a milk pot or a creamer. Made of porcelain this gravy boat type item was quite common place within hospitals and homes at a time.
